We were commissioned by Halep İşhanı & Pasajı to . Halep Pasajı is a registered landmark building originally built in 1885 by the Hacar family from Aleppo. Later in the 1920’s it was bought by Süreyya Paşa (1874 – 1955) and renovated in the 1980’s. It houses unique theatre and cinema venues such as Ortaoyuncular – Ses Tiyatrosu, Maya Sahnesi, and Beyoğlu Sineması. The commission asked for the renovation of the entrance spaces into the shopping arcade including a revision of the identity of the arcade. While most people are familiar with the singular spaces located inside the building, most are unaware that the host building is called Halep Pasajı. We proposed two schemes, one with a wooden interior, simplifying the space currently riddled with ads and various additions onto the surfaces of the arcade. Second scheme consisting of a woven ceiling spanning the entirety of the entrance space. A mobile sales/communication unit was proposed, the ‘HalepMobil’ in order to provide the necessary storefront presence of the spaces that are otherwise not visible from the street level.
