Mosque, Social-Education Wings & Gardens
Commissioned by: Municipality of Uşak
Location: Uşak, Turkey
Year: 2015
Our first design for a mosque was an experimentation on patterns and folded surfaces. The geometric articulation of the glazed brick volumes were generated with a simple algorithm yielding a complex pattern for the exterior brick surfaces. The linear mosque boasts an entrance courtyard lined with cypress trees and ablution fountains to the northwest of the site. A social and education wing and community therapy gardens are to the east and southeast respectively. The gardens use rainwater accumulated in the pools which also constitute a buffer zone from the projected urban enter of which the mosque is planned within.
