WHY NOT BOSTAN
All the produce hanging here are from the Yedikule Bostans and planted by a bostancı currently cultivating the soil next to the Historic Land Walls of Istanbul. Bostan is an urban farm, a productive landscape unique to Istanbul since the Byzantine times. Bostancı is the urban farmer, the craftsmen without whom bostan cannot exist. Istanbul was populated with bostans well until 1950’s, today mainly Yedikule Bostans are struggling to remain and are under threat of extinction. We hope Why Not Bostan will catch your attention and inspire you to support that bostans, urban agriculture can still continue to exist and florish in Yedikule and in other parts of the city.
It has been possible to make agriculture in this urban setting for 1500 years and Why Not Now?!
NEDEN OLMASIN BOSTANI
Burada asılı olan tüm bitkiler Yedikule Bostanları’ndan geldi. İstanbul Tarihi Kara Surları boyunca hala toprağı işleyen bir bostancı tarafından ekildi ve dikildi. Bostan, Bizans’ tan beri İstanbul’a özgü kentsel tarım alanı ve üretken bir peyzaj tipolojisidir. Bostanı varetme zanaatine vakıf bostancı olmadan bostan mümkün değildir. 1950’lere kadar İstanbul’ da birçok bostan varken bugün yegane kalan Yedikule Bostanları yok olma tehdidi altında. Ümidimiz o ki, Neden Olmasın Bostanı dikkatinizi çeksin ve bostanların, kentsel tarımın Yedikule’ de ve şehrin diğer yerlerinde de varolmaya ve ürün vermeye devam etmesini destekleyin. Bu kentte 1500 yıldır kentsel tarım yapılırken şimdi Neden Olmasın?!
