Moss garden in the joints
Commissioned by: Erica Jakubassa
Location: Brooklyn, New York

This project was inspired by the wild plants and moss growing inside the cracks of sidewalks in Brooklyn, NY. The project was not just a simple paving exercise: it removed the impermeable surface–concrete, and replaced it with a permeable substrate–crushed stone. Rain water can penetrate through the entire slate and moss garden.

The moss was collected and transplanted from the existing moss inside the cracks in the neighborhood sidewalks.
